Angelica Root (Dried)
Angelica Root (Angelica archangelica)
Angelica Root is a biennial plant. On our farm, we harvest the root in the fall of its first year or the spring of its second year. Although we cultivate it here, we have also observed it growing wild, often along the river. To ensure its propagation on the farm, we allow several plants to set seed. Once the seeds germinate, the young starts can be replanted in the fall or early spring.
Digestive Support:Angelica root offers warming and stimulating effects on the digestive system. Its inherent bitter compounds encourage the production of digestive enzymes and secretions, while its mildly spicy nature enhances blood flow to the stomach.
Due to its notable bitterness, angelica root is a common ingredient in herbal bitters formulas. For maximum benefit in stimulating both digestion and appetite, angelica is most effective when consumed before a meal, whether prepared as a tea or within a bitters preparation.
Respiratory Relief: The warming and stimulating qualities of angelica root also benefit the respiratory system. It can help alleviate congestion and promote the clearing of mucus from the lungs.
