Ashwagandha , also known as "Indian ginseng" or "winter cherry," is a highly esteemed herb in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of natural healing. This small shrub, which has yellow flowers and is native to India and Southeast Asia, takes its name from the Sanskrit for "smell of the horse," alluding to its scent and traditional use to enhance strength. For thousands of years, people have utilized extracts or powder from the plant’s root and leaves to support various health needs.
Key Traditional and Potential Benefits:
Apoptogenic and Stress Support: As an adaptogen, Ashwagandha supports neuro-endocrine communication and is traditionally used to ease occasional stress, agitation, and worry. It works to calm and strengthen the nervous system without over-stimulating, uniquely providing both an energizing and calming effect to help relieve stress while boosting energy levels.
Focus and Concentration: This herb is traditionally used to improve concentration and provide focus.
Sleep Promotion: Traditionally used to promote restorative, deep, and restful sleep. It can be taken as needed for sleep support, with the option to repeat the dose if no response is felt within 30 minutes.
Athletic Performance: Some research suggests potential benefits for improving athletic performance.
